Maribor Workshop: Participatory design with older adults for telecare services

Participatory design is an approach to design attempting to actively involve all stakeholders in the design process in order to help ensure the product designed meets their needs and is usable.
This workshop will be conducted in a nursing home for elderly people in Maribor, Slovenia. The participants of the workshop will be nursing home residents – people, older than 65 years, affected by general age-related changes, but not suffering from special diseases, such as: dementia, glaucoma of Parkinson disease.
The workshop will give a short introduction lecture and then the participants will work on a small project. Card sorting UCD method will be used for determining what older people think about and expect from a telecare service’s information architecture, the workflow, the labeling, and categorization of information, and the design of navigation and search systems within the service. Participants will get a set of previously prepared physical cards containing some content. They will be asked to define a define categories and sort the cards into groups according to similarities between the cards contents.
